Missy Ireland (Reese)
It doesn't seem possible that it's been 20 years. But, like Rick, I
can tell when I look in the mirror!
After graduation, I went to UNM. It was a great time and I graduated
with a degree in Psychology. I then moved to Las Cruces to be with my
future husband, Travis Ireland (class of '88). I worked for the State
of NM in social work. Travis and I were married in April 94. Soon after,
Travis was offered a job as an athletic trainer at Freed-Hardeman
University in Jackson, Tennessee. We moved to TN in 10/94. It was a big
change for both of us. Luckily, close friends, Mickey and Karen
(Lee-class of '89) Matuszak were living there also. I found the same job
in social work with the State of TN.
We settled into our new life and 4 months after we moved, we found out
we were pregnant! Jake was born in September 1995. He was and still is
completely incredible. In February 1999 our other son, Brett, was born.
And he was just as wonderful as his brother!
Around this time, as Jake was getting close to school age, we realized
we didn't want to raise our children there. Not that it wasn't a good
place to live but we knew we wanted to be home. Luckily, a position at
P.T.L.A. became available and we moved back to Los Alamos in November
1999. We've never regretted the decision especially since our kids
never want to leave!
Travis is still working at P.T.L.A. I stayed home with the boys for a
few years. Then I started working at Eye Associates part-time. I am
busy as I now team lead 3 offices but, fortunately, they still let me
work part-time. The boys keep us even busier with baseball, hockey and
football! They love their sports! (Sounds like Trav, huh?) We get to
see the locals a lot, Matuszaks (they moved back in 2000), Hopkins,
Wangens, Brockways, Anayas (Lilly Hinsley's family), Johnsons (Nancy
Dean's family) & many others, like us, who have lived elsewhere and came
back to Los Alamos for the same reasons.
