Twenty years sounds like such like a long time! It sure doesn't
feel like it has been that long, but looking back I have realized that
there has been a lot of water under the bridge since high school. There
have been lots of great times, and like everyone, I have had my
challenges, too. Here are some of the highlights...
After graduation, I left Los Alamos to move back to Colorado
where I lived until I was 12. Most of my family was there and this was
where I decided I wanted to go to college. I started a 10 year plan at the
University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where I learned to enjoy life
to its fullest; unfortunately, I did not spend much time with my nose in
the books.
After 1 ½ years, I decided that the university was not for me and
went to EMT school at the local community college. I promptly got a job
with a busy ambulance company in Denver (and surrounding suburbs) after
completing my training in 1992. I stayed with this job for the next 3 ½
years. This job was very exciting (sometimes scary) and ended being
such an eye opener for me. Talk about culture shock! I learned so much
about our society, human nature, and most of all, I learned a ton about
myself. Through this experience, I learned that I was very drawn to
helping others and caring for people. So I went back to UNC to finish up
my course work for nursing school.
I started nursing school in 1995 and graduated in 1997. I found
my niche in the maternal/child area of nursing. After 3 years, I
decided to go back to school and started my master's program in 2000. I
graduated with my master's in nursing education in Dec 2002. The
following Feb I started contract teaching with the University of
Colorado at Denver and Health Science Center; teaching nursing students
in the clinical setting in addition to my staff nurse position at
University of Colorado Hospital.
This clinical teaching position grew into my current full time
faculty position at the University Of Colorado School Of Nursing. I
also still do some staff nursing shifts on a busy labor and delivery
unit in Denver. I love to teach and I love bedside nursing, so I have
the best of both worlds.
I currently live in Westminster Colorado with my 2 very spoiled
pets; a 6 year old beagle, "Buster" and my 3 year old cat, "Tucker". I
have never been married, and I do not have any kids. I have run across
plenty of "mister right-now's", but I just have not found "mister
right". My Mom finally moved back to the Denver area a few years ago,
so most of my family is here in Colorado. I love the outdoors, and
spend as much time as I can skiing, biking, camping...
I have been very lucky to have stayed in touch with a few of my
friends from high school; but I am really looking forward to seeing
everyone else at the reunion in July.
