Great job to the committee for all the work putting the reunion and
website together. I loved high school and seeing all the pictures
brought back so many happy memories and put the biggest fattest smile on
my face.
I started out at UNM but was having so much fun, my father made my
curfew 11:45 in high school so yes UNM was a ball for me, so decided I
needed to be a little more serious about finishing school and
transferred to Arizona State University. Which was even more fun. So
yes, it took me awhile to get my degree.
1992, some friends and I decided to start a Summer Camp for kids
infected with HIV/AIDS. As one of only 3 camps of its kind in the US
-- one in NY and one in CA -- our camp grew from 30 kids that first year
to over 300 kids. It also grew into a full time job for me. Camp
Hakuna Matata and the lessons I learned from being lucky enough to be a
part of for 5 years, changed my life and the direction I was going. It
was an amazing experience in so many ways. I met my husband at the camp,
Jack he was a volunteer camp counselor and we've been married for
almost 9 years. He is oh, so patient with me and brings so much balance
to my life. God love him. Thankfully the camp is no longer in
existence since so few children in the U.S. are infected these days.
After being married a few months, Jack's job took us to Atlanta,
Georgia for 2 years where I went back to school to work on a Masters.
My family still teases me that I'm the only person that has as many
years of school under my belt and no doctorate. Then Jack's job took us
back to Phoenix where I went back to work in the non-profit world. In
2002, Jack's job brought us to Salt Lake City. We love living here
being so close to the beautiful mountains and skiing has been great. I
have worked in media and marketing for the past 5 years for Salt Lake
Magazine and the local ABC television affiliate. Last September we were
blessed with a baby girl- and she is the absolute most amazing light in
my life. I love being a mom. We also have 2 dogs that we love to be
outdoors with. I continue to do some part time consulting jobs for a
children's non-profit and a marathon event.
Last year we were skiing at Alta and I, by lucky chance, got on the
same chair lift as Lee Souders- I am ever amazed at life, it was great
to see Lee.
I am excited to see what happens in the next chapters of life- it's
always so crazy, beautiful, messy, surprising, fun, and in light of my
little squirrel miraculous.
