Well, dang - how do I summarize the last twenty years and make it
sound like I'm a productive member of society? I started a band with a
few other LA folks. We moved to Washington, DC and wrote a lot of music
(nothing particularly worth listening to though). After a year in DC we
moved to Austin, TX. The band broke up and I moved back to DC.
I started playing with a few bands, studied a few martial arts, and
went to school for sound engineering. After getting certifications in
sound engineering, live sound reinforcement, and music business
(whatever that means), I was "awarded" an internship at the studio and
had the opportunity to work with some interesting musicians.
During all of this I also had two kids. The relationship didn't work
out, but she is a good woman and a good mother - the kids are GREAT.
They both have much more direction than I had at their age. I am
thankful for all of those things.
(fastforward) My 15 year old son keeps himself busy with the Civil
Air Patrol and Search and Rescue. He gets straight A's (huh?) and
should have his pilot's license soon. My 13 year old daughter goes to a
conehead school. She gets good grades, plays basketball, clarinet, and
has way too much of a social life. I guess they gotta grow up
sometime...
(flashback) Anyway, I was also developing an interest in classical
guitar. So, long story short, I put the martial arts to use "bouncing"
at a few bars in DC and started studying classical guitar. I ended up
at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where I majored in
classical guitar performance.
After three years of paying exorbitant tuition fees, I got a "summer"
job with a defense contractor. I'm still there. I'm now a training
analyst, courseware developer, and the FSO.
I've moved a lot between Virginia, Maryland, and DC. I coached
soccer for many years. I sang in the church choir (yup - church. Try
not to faint).
Anyway, I still play soccer once a week and most of my "spare" time
is spent designing and building classical guitars. I'm hoping one day
to be happy enough with a design to keep it. I'm also hoping one day to
get back to the mountains - it's flat and sticky here.
There you have it - no felonies, no jail time. Life is good.
